Lime: The oil of Zest for Life

By Ariana Harley with guests William Wan, Dr. Louise Rose ND and Dr. Mica Carew ND, LAc

As we move into a different phase as a society (and as an entire world), we need to uplift our collective sense of joy and exuberance. Lime essential oil is our plant ally in this!

doTERRA Lime essential oil is sourced ethically from Brazil and is created from the peel (rind) of the Lime fruit, not the insides (juice). The chemical constituents of the peel are different and much more potent than Lime juice.

Read the blog post:

doTERRA carries Lime in a large (15ml) bottle, with 250 drops per bottle. You can use doTERRA Lime essential oil topically, aromatically and internally.

However, Lime is photosensitive (reacts to light). While you can use it on your body during times of the year that don’t get a lot of sunlight or on parts of our body that are NOT exposed, please refrain from applying it and then going into direct sunlight for 12 years. Doing so can discolor our skin.

If you are looking for a citrus that you can wear in direct sunlight, consider using Green Mandarin which is not photosensitive.

What does Lime essential oil do for emotional and spiritual wellbeing?

Lime is helpful for feelings of apathy, grief, discouragement or a lack of enthusiasm. Lime is the oil of the zest for Life!

  • Focus and concentration: Feeling unfocused and uninspired? Use Lime in your diffuser at your desk or in your room! Ariana’s Study blend is: 5 drops Lime, 5 drops Peppermint and 5 drops Rosemary in your diffuser when you need to focus on a task or retain information.

  • To rejuvenate your energy or if you feel exhausted: Inhale or diffuse Lime when you need to feel revitalized. Use Lime topically in the evenings on the heart to revitalize your inner life force and remember to engage in your life story.

  • Getting out of our own head: Lime can help us feel playful, openminded and energetic.

  • To lighten and brighten the energy of a Room or space: Lime can help energetically clear a space! Dr. Mica Carew suggests in our Lime webinar that when she wants to liven the energy of her clinic, she diffuses Lime to lighten up the energy of the space.

  • For more interesting dreams: Diffuse Juniper Berry and Lime essential oils together at night to increase dream activity and make your dream life more compelling and explorative.

  • For Public speaking: Diffuse Spearmint, Lime and Lavender together before speaking to a group to be more flexible, communicative and openminded. (We recommend 2 drops Spearmint, 4 drops Lime and 4 drops Lavender!)

What does Lime do for the physical body?

These are just a few of the benefits of using Lime physically:

  • Immune function: Support your immune system with Lime! Put 1-2 drops of Lime essential oil in your glass of water and drink. Bonus: Try this with sparkling water! It is a delicious, healthy fizzy mocktail.

  • Appetite stimulant: If you need to stimulate the appetite and increase the desire to eat, inhale Lime directly and/or add Lime in your water.

  • For oily or acne-prone Skin: Massage 3-5 drops of Lime into oily areas of your skin at night before bed, after cleansing the skin. This will help balance oil production on the skin, leading to a more vibrant complexion.

  • Cellulite: Firmly massage Lime into areas with cellulite every night before bed.

  • Respiratory support: Mix Lime with fractionated coconut oil and massage into the chest for respiratory support. We recommend a ratio of 3 drops Lime with 20-25 drops of coconut oil. (Try combining Lime with Breathe blend - this feels divine if you struggle with respiratory issues!)
